Charles F. Baugham, Sr., Richmond, term expires 6/30/11

The Rev. Dr. Charles F. Baugham, Sr. is the pastor of the St. James Baptist Church of Milford, Virginia. Next month he will celebrate his 19 th Anniversary as pastor of St. James. He is a native of Rich Square, North Carolina where he received his early education. All of his higher education was received from Virginia Union University. He earned a B.S. in mathematics in 1968, the Master of Divinity (Magna Cum Laude) in 1986, and the Doctor of Ministry in 1993.
He spent 25 years in the Finance Department of Bell Atlantic Telephone Company (now Verizon) before taking an early separation package in December of 1991 to be a full time minister and complete his doctoral studies.
He is the past moderator for the Mattaponi Association of Virginia and the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Richmond and Vicinity. He is a member of the Foundation Board of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia and also serves as its Commissioner for Christian Social Concern. He is a registered organ donor and is listed on the National Bone Marrow Registry. He is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and a life member of the NAACP. He was appointed by Governor Warner to the Virginia Council on Human Rights in 2004. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Interfaith Council for Public Policy for the State of Virginia. He is reading buddy at the John B. Carey Elementary School where reads twice a week.
He has gone on four Mission Trips to Africa in 1996, 2001, 2003 and 2005. He has raised over $16,000 that was donated to many African mission needs and ministries and continues to send gifts and materials to churches in Africa.
He has a prison letter-writing ministry where he communicates with more than ten inmates once a month and during all holidays. He enjoys all types of music and reading. He enjoys exercising.
He has been married 38 years to his college sweetheart, the former Justine Grace Johnson, who retired this year after 34 years in education. They have two adult children, Wendi and Charles, Jr. They have three grandchildren. He and Justine are the granny and papa to many children throughout the community. He looks forward to retiring and a few years and doing some writing.
