David A. Drachsler, Alexandria, term expires 6/30/11
Vice Chairman

David Drachsler graduated from New York University at University Heights in 1965 and from Harvard Law School in 1968. After one year as a VISTA Volunteer lawyer from 1968-1969, he served in various legal positions in the United States Department of Labor from 1969 until his retirement in January 2004, including 6 years in the Civil Rights Division of the Office of the Solicitor as Counsel for EEO Programs, and 23 years as an attorney-adviser with the Administrative Review Board. He is currently Vice Chair of the Virginia Council on Human Rights and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia. He has also served as a member and Chair of the Alexandria, Va. Human Rights Commission, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of the National Capital Area and as a member of the National Board of the ACLU. Mr. Drachsler served for 10 years as a member of the Alexandria Democratic Committee and continues to serve as a member of the ADC Resolutions Committee. Mr. Drachsler is the author of numerous articles on EEO law, employment law and administrative law. His most recently published articles have been “Proof of Disparate Treatment under Federal Civil Rights Laws,” CCH Labor Law Journal, Winter 2005, and “Use of Lawyer-Client Privileged Information by In-House Counsel in their own Retaliatory Discharge Actions under the Environmental Laws,” Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum, Winter 2004.
